Darius Rucker’s Howl Owl Howl Launches 2025 Tour

Darius Rucker Forms Supergroup Howl Owl Howl With R.E.M. and Black Crowes Members

Darius Rucker, frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, has officially unveiled a new project that’s been years in the making. The singer has joined forces with Mike Mills, legendary bassist of R.E.M., and Steve Gorman, longtime drummer of The Black Crowes, to form a supergroup called Howl Owl Howl.

The collaboration began as informal jam sessions back in 2021, when the three musicians discovered a strong creative spark. According to Rucker, what started as “fun in the studio” soon grew into something much bigger. “The energy we felt playing together was undeniable,” he shared.

Debut Single “My Cologne” Drops Halloween 2025

The group’s first official release, “My Cologne”, will arrive October 31, 2025—just in time for Halloween. The track introduces fans to Howl Owl Howl’s sound: a mix of roots rock, southern grit, and alternative energy, layered with Rucker’s soulful rasp and Mills’ melodic bass lines.

While details about a full album remain under wraps, the band confirmed that new material will be showcased on tour. Fans can expect a balance of original songs and powerful reinterpretations of favorites from R.E.M., The Black Crowes, and Hootie & the Blowfish.

A Rock Legacy Reimagined

Rucker’s career has already spanned decades, from the massive success of Hootie & the Blowfish in the 1990s to his Grammy-winning country music career. Teaming up with Mills and Gorman allows him to reconnect with his rock roots while exploring new creative territory.

Mills brings his iconic R.E.M. sensibility to the project, while Gorman’s thunderous drumming anchors the band’s sound. Together, they aim to craft music that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Looking Ahead

Although only one single has been announced, insiders suggest that a full-length album is expected in 2026. For now, Howl Owl Howl is focused on connecting with fans in an authentic, grassroots way through their debut tour.

As Rucker explained: “This is about making music we love with people we respect. The rest will come naturally.”
